Next Gen Real Estate, What Needs To Change?
After 10 years of experience in the corporate world of Re/Max, I have seen what the future is not. It is not more of the “same old-same old”. The days of impressing clients with fancy cars, suits and office suites are over (at least for now). In retrospect, I wonder if any of my 500+ clients ever needed that? The old school traditions are still so set in stone that in the “Bigger is Better” corporate environment I felt it impossible to transform as needed to meet the challenges of the new economic realities.
I believe that everyone who is involved in either buying or selling property currently needs the full attention of their Realtor, now more than ever. This environment has stripped Realtors (myself included) of the pompous self-centered attitudes created when we could cherry pick our favorite/”most likely to buy today” clients. Now we can get back to the more egalitarian,fair-minded, service oriented, consultant aspect that interested me in Real Estate in the first place.
This massive change is happening right now and it is exciting! Businesses are being forced to improve or get left behind. The big Real Estate companies are retreating. Closing offices, doubling the number of agents in offices that were already technologically behind to the point where the internet access is so slow that efficiently searching for properties is impossible. These times demand a forward thinking style mixed with the ability to change without hesitation. There is a limit to how much you can downsize to compensate for the slow market…
I am enjoying the process of bringing the knowledge that comes from over ten years in the top 10% to this transformative and fluid time. I have learned more in the last two weeks than in the last two years! Brainstorming daily to provide service to clients at a new higher level. Surrounding myself with brilliant, community minded and innovative individuals who inspire change. Every day I wake up with the excitement of being at the forefront of the next gen business model; focusing on real people with real needs; the human aspect of helping people find their home. Reaching out in a more open and transparent way to my professional friends and clients.
In this way, I feel open to evolve quickly. Instead of hanging on to the familiar, I am leaping into a future that will be fascinating beyond our wildest imagination. What a delight, to be in a position to help people professionally with one of the most important investments, and quality of life decisions they will make in their lifetime, while at the same time feeling intellectually activated and excited about life! I welcome everyone to join me in this pursuit of personal and professional improvement.
